At least three media organizations have reported receiving purported ransom notes that they handed over to investigators. The sheriff\u2019s department has said it was taking the notes and other tips seriously but declined to comment further.<\/p>\n

The FBI said there are impostors who are trying to profit from this situation. Officials said one person was arrested after being accused of making an imposter ransom demand.<\/p>\n

The FBI has announced a $50,000 reward for the return of Guthrie or information leading to the arrest of suspects.<\/p>\n

Authorities believe Guthrie, 84, was kidnapped from her Tucson home over the weekend.<\/p>\n

Savannah Guthrie, her daughter and \u201cToday Show\u201d host, issued an emotional plea to the kidnapper on Wednesday. The family is desperate for her safe return, as Nancy Guthrie requires medication for health issues.<\/p>\n

A criminal complaint filed on Thursday identified him as Derrick Callella.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have made one arrest related to an imposter ransom demand, and a complaint will be presented to a magistrate judge later today,\u201d FBI Agent Heith Janke said during a news conference earlier on Thursday.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy next message is to those imposters who are trying to take advantage and profit from this situation,\u201d he added. \u201cWe will investigate and ensure you are held accountable for your actions.\u201d<\/p>\n

Callella was charged with transmitting a demand for ransom in interstate commerce, and without disclosing his identity, utilizing a telecommunications device with the intent to abuse, threaten, or harass a person.<\/p>\n

The criminal complaint noted that Nancy Guthrie\u2019s loved ones received two text messages asking for payment confirmation after the family released a video on Wednesday begging for Nancy Guthrie\u2019s safe return.<\/p>\n

\u201cDid you get the bitcoin were [sic] waiting on our end for the transaction,\u201d one of the texts noted, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n

Authorities said they traced the texts to Callella\u2019s email, which they then linked to this home. He then admitted to sending the texts using a VOIP account.<\/p>\n

\u201cCallella stated that he pulled family information from a cyber website, and that he had been following along and watching TV,\u201d according to the complaint. \u201cWhen he said that he sent text messages, he was trying to see if the family would respond.\u201d<\/p>\n

The pair of text messages were not linked to a previous ransom demand, per the complaint.<\/p>\n

Her family later issued a plea on social media, urging her suspected captor to contact them and prove their mother is alive.<\/p>\n

Camron Guthrie, who is Nancy\u2019s son, released a new video Thursday night begging for his mother\u2019s safe return.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhoever is out there holding our mother, we want to hear from you. We haven\u2019t heard anything directly. We need you to reach out and we need a way to communicate with you so that we can move forward,\u201d he said in footage shared on Instagram.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut first, we have to know that you have our mom,\u201d he added. \u201cWe want to talk to you and we are waiting for contact.\u201d<\/p>\n

Authorities said Nancy Guthrie was last seen inside her home on Arizona on Saturday night. She was reported missing shortly before noon Sunday after she didn\u2019t show up at a church.<\/p>\n

Investigators said they have no proof that she is still alive but are holding out hope she\u2019s \u201cstill out there.<\/p>\n

DNA tests showed blood found on her front porch was a match to her. Authorities think she was taken against her will from her home in Tucson over the weekend.<\/p>\n

\u201cRight now, we believe Nancy is still out there. We want her home,\u201d Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said.<\/p>\n

The sheriff, however, acknowledged that authorities have no evidence she\u2019s OK.<\/p>\n

The Pima County Sheriff\u2019s Department said they are yet to identify a suspect or person of interest in connection with her disappearance.<\/p>\n

\u201cDetectives continue to speak with anyone who may have had contact with Mrs. Guthrie. Detectives are closely working with the Guthrie family,\u201d the department wrote on X Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Authorities also said while they appreciate the public\u2019s concern, they urged people to stop sharing incorrect information online.<\/p>\n
