Prince Harry is expected to play a key role in King Charles’ funeral

King Charles Plans ‘Prominent Roles’ for Harry and Meghan at His Funeral

Though King Charles remains in good health at 76, he is already preparing for the inevitable. Just like Queen Elizabeth II did, he is finalizing his own funeral plans. Surprisingly, reports now claim he’s made a bold decision—Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could be given prominent roles in the proceedings.

A Royal Rift That Still Runs Deep

Death may be a natural part of life, but it often stirs unresolved emotions. For King Charles, one issue remains unresolved: his fractured relationship with Prince Harry.

Since Harry and Meghan stepped back from royal duties in 2021, tensions within the Royal Family have only grown. Harry publicly shared his grievances in interviews and his memoir Spare, leaving the royal household stunned.

In a BBC interview earlier this year, Harry revealed his father no longer speaks to him. Despite that, he expressed a desire for peace.
“I’d love reconciliation,” he said, though he admitted that “some members” of the family “will never forgive” him.

Silent Palace, Hurt Feelings

The Royal Family has remained silent about Harry’s claims. However, a May 2025 report from Us Weekly stated that the royals feel “hurt and betrayed.” Prince William reportedly took it the hardest, feeling “more hurt than anything else.”

The source also suggested that while Meghan is often blamed, Harry shares responsibility for the family breakdown.

Charles Longs to See His Grandchildren

Despite the tension, King Charles is said to be heartbroken over not seeing his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Travel concerns and lack of royal protection have kept the Sussexes away from the UK.

Harry’s bond with William has completely broken down. Some insiders claim the brothers haven’t spoken in over two years—and speculate they may not see each other again until their father’s funeral.

Operation Menai Bridge: Planning the Farewell

Upon the Queen’s passing, Operation London Bridge was activated. For King Charles, the funeral plan is called Operation Menai Bridge—and it’s just as detailed.

The plan outlines who will be contacted, how the nation will be informed, and what ceremonies will take place. Flags across the UK will be lowered to half-mast, and an official statement will be released immediately.

Interestingly, King Charles reportedly intends to include sustainable elements in his funeral, staying true to his environmental values.

One Day of Mourning and a Personal Guest List

Unlike Queen Elizabeth’s weeklong royal mourning, King Charles has requested just one day following his funeral. He also holds the power to decide who attends—and reports say he’s made a firm choice.

According to The Telegraph, King Charles not only wants Harry and Meghan present, but intends to give them key roles.

Harry and Meghan’s Roles in the Ceremony

Sources claim Charles hopes to include both the Sussexes and their children in the farewell events. Harry is reportedly expected to walk alongside William during the funeral procession in London.

He and Meghan will also be invited to participate in the family vigil at Westminster Hall, when the King lies in state. Their involvement will be significant, not symbolic.

Can the Royal Family Heal?

Charles’ decision could be an olive branch—or simply a sign of duty and legacy. Including Harry and Meghan in such a public and ceremonial moment may open the door to healing—or at least begin to soften long-standing divisions.
