96 Private Jets At Bezos’s Venice Wedding Will Emit More Daily Carbon Than 27,300 Cars

Both Jeff Bezos’s wedding and the quantity of CO2 released into the sky will be historic occasions.

Nothing compares to the glamour and splendour of a celebrity wedding. Anyone would be envious of the A-listers, millionaires, and décor. The employment of private jets, however, is a slight departure from the wedding of the Amazon CEO and one that would take place in your home state.

The extravagance of Bezos and Lauren Sanchez’s impending wedding has already generated controversy, and demonstrators have

been dissatisfied with him for supposedly “renting” out the whole city. His emissions are currently on the hit list.

According to rumours, Bezos and Sanchez got engaged in May 2023 and are getting married this week.

Ivanka Trump, Mick Jagger, Oprah Winfrey, and Katy Perry are all expected to attend the couple’s June 27 wedding in Venice, Italy.

When it was revealed last year that they would be spending $600 million on their wedding, the founder of Amazon denied these rumours.

Instead, according to recent estimates, Bezos and Sanchez may be spending anywhere from $15 million to $20 million, according to Mail Online.

That sum is substantial.

Fortunately, as many people choose to fly in the sky to the dream wedding, it probably does not include private automobile rentals for their guests.

Bezos’s friends will be travelling from all over the world in their own privately owned planes, which have been estimated to release the same amount of carbon dioxide emissions as 27,300 cars every day, while the majority of individuals drive or take commercial flights across state.

A normal passenger car emits roughly 4.6 metric tonnes (4600 kg) of CO2 annually, according to the US Environmental Protection Agency. If you do the maths, you’ll see how much it adds up every day.

Now, you may put your calculator away because I’ll do the maths for you if you’re not good at it.

12.6 kilogramme of emissions per day is calculated by dividing 4600 kg by 365 days in a year.

About 96 private planes are expected to land in the city for the three-day event, according to the Italian newspaper Affaritaliani.

In 2023, “private aviation contributed at least 15.6 Mt CO2 in direct emissions, or about 3.6 t (tonnes) CO2 per flight,” according to a 2024 study that examined the relationship between private aviation and climate change.

Therefore, multiplying the 3.6 tonnes of CO2 produced by a single aircraft by the 96 planes anticipated to travel to Bezos’ wedding yields 354 tonnes, or 345,000 kilogrammes.

We may calculate the number of cars needed to produce the same amount of CO2 by dividing the plane’s daily CO2 by the car’s daily CO2 if each car produces 12.6 kg and the plane produces 345,0000 kg.

Is that logical? It ought to.

27,300 automobiles are calculated by dividing 345,000 kg by 12.6 kg.

That’s a significant quantity of CO2 for three days of festivities, when you consider it.

That doesn’t even account for the cost of the return flight.
