After two days of searching, they found the girl, then 10 years old, in the worst possible way. Oh, how sad.

The body of Dulce Victoria, a 10-year-old girl who unintentionally fell into the Lerma River last Thursday, was found after two days of intense searching. The Salamanca community is shocked by the discovery, which puts an end to hopes of finding her alive.

In an official statement, the Salamanca Municipal Government confirmed the sad news: “The body of a 10-year-old girl who fell into the Lerma River in the community of Pitayo last Thursday was found this Saturday morning.”

“With profound respect, the Municipal Government regrets this painful outcome and expresses its solidarity and support to the minor’s family, reiterating its commitment to act responsibly and humanely in any situation that affects the community,” the municipal administration said in a statement expressing its deepest condolences to Dulce’s family.

Special thanks have been given by the Salamanca community to Liborio Vázquez and his Salamanca Rescue Brigade for their unwavering efforts that led to the minor’s body being found. Authorities from Irapuato, Pueblo Nuevo, and Huanímaro, as well as diving teams, the Salamanca Fire Department, the Red Cross, and Municipal and State Civil Protection, all took an active part in the search efforts.

Dulce Victoria’s tragic disappearance

Emergency personnel were notified about a child clinging to a tree in the middle of the Lerma River at approximately 3:15 p.m. on Thursday, June 12.

The boy, who was saved, claimed that he and Dulce Victoria were playing together when they both went into the water. While his friend was carried away by the river, he was able to cling on and avoid being carried away by the powerful current. Rescue crews started a relentless search after that, and this Saturday morning they discovered Dulce Victoria’s body.
