I thought the hardest part would be sending him that money I’d scraped together for emergencies. It wasn’t. The real pain came from realizing he never saw it as help—he saw it as entitlement. The Instagram stories, the laughter when I questioned him, the way he dismissed me with, “You’re family, not a bank,” were warnings I tried to ignore. The footage of him stealing from my home ripped away the last of my denial.

Calling the police felt like betraying blood, but he’d already betrayed something deeper: trust. Blocking him wasn’t revenge; it was survival. Family doesn’t mean allowing yourself to be used, lied to, or robbed because you share DNA. The lesson is brutal but necessary: love with an open heart, but guard your boundaries like your life depends on them—because your peace often does.
