‘Game of Thrones’ actor Michael Patrick dead at 35

He thought he had one year left. Ten days later, he was gone.
At just 35, Game of Thrones actor Michael Patrick lost his brutal fight with Motor Neuron Disease, leaving his wife Naomi to share the news no one was ready to read. Tributes pour in, but one haunting quote he loved now feels like a final instruc…

He was born in Belfast, but Michael Patrick’s reach went far beyond any one city or stage. Trained at Cambridge and London’s Mountview Academy, he lit up Shakespeare at the Royal Shakespeare Company and later stepped into the brutal world of Westeros in Game of Thrones. Even after his Motor Neuron Disease diagnosis in February 2023, he refused to retreat from the work he loved, taking on roles in Blue Lights, This Town, and a fierce turn as Richard III in Belfast.

Ten days before his death, doctors told him he had a year to live; he answered publicly that there was “still lots to live for and lots planned.” His wife Naomi described him as a titan of spirit and laughter, and shared the simple Brendan Behan quote he cherished: eat, drink, love. In the end, he died peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, leaving a legacy of courage, craft, and unshaken joy.
