The Mailman Joke
It was an ordinary, quiet dinner — the kind where long-married couples speak more with glances than words.
He stirred his coffee, smirked, and decided to lighten the mood.
“So, the guys at the club say the mailman’s slept with every woman on our street… except one.”
He waited for her usual laugh. But she didn’t smile.
She simply lifted her wine glass, took a calm sip, and said, “Well, it must be that stuck-up Linda at number 14.”
Silence. His grin vanished. Was she joking… or confessing?
Her tone was so casual, so confident, that he couldn’t tell.
When she finally looked up and said, “Relax, it’s just a joke,” he laughed — but not convincingly.
That night, he couldn’t stop replaying her words. Maybe it was humor. Maybe not.
Either way, from that evening on, he never joked about the mailman again.
