Shooting Near Howard University Leaves Four Injured
Chaos erupted Friday night near Howard University when at
least four people were shot on Georgia Avenue NW, just steps from homecoming celebrations.
Police said the shooting occurred around 10:30 p.m. in the
2300 block of Georgia Avenue, an area crowded with students and alumni.
Four victims were hospitalized — one in critical condition, one serious, and two expected to recover.
Witnesses described a terrifying scene.
“We were just dancing, and then everyone started screaming.
It felt like chaos in seconds,” one student told FOX 5 DC.
Police believe the gunfire happened near an off-campus gathering linked to the festivities but have not announced any suspects or motive.
Howard University confirmed that no official homecoming events were affected but said all remaining activities will face extra security checks.
“It’s devastating that our students can’t even feel safe at their own homecoming,” one alum wrote.
