Grandmother Fights Off Robbers at ATM
Seventy-seven-year-old Winifred Peel of Wirral, UK, proved that courage has no age when she fought off three robbers at an ATM.
The Attack
While withdrawing cash, she noticed men approaching from behind.
Two restrained her as a third withdrew £200. Acting fast, Winifred grabbed one attacker by
the collar and struck him three times with the ATM head, leaving him injured before they fled.
Arrests and Sentences
Police later identified the suspects—Felix Stoica, Florin Geblescu, and Piper Dumitru, aged 18 and 19—thanks to the attacker’s head injuries. All three were arrested and sentenced to prison.
Courage and Aftermath
“I will never have the confidence I previously had,” Winifred told Metro, “but this experience transformed my life.”
Raised with three brothers and active in sports, her quick thinking stopped the robbers and reminded everyone not to underestimate a determined grandmother.
