According to a statement issued late Sunday, Rudy Giuliani, the former mayor of New York City, was gravely hurt in a car accident in New Hampshire.

At the time of the incident, the 80-year-old was reportedly helping a victim of domestic abuse. Giuliani stopped

to offer assistance, according to local authorities, before his car was hit, seriously injuring him.
