Public Clash Over January 6 Security Failures

A heated confrontation erupted between former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and ex-Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund, exposing new details about the security breakdown on January 6.

Pelosi criticized Trump’s recent law enforcement push in D.C., saying.

“Donald Trump delayed deploying the National Guard on January 6th when our Capitol was under violent attack and lives were at stake.”

Sund Fires Back With New Claims

Sund countered sharply: “Ma’am, it is long past time to be honest with the American people.”

He revealed he requested National Guard support on January 3 but was “shot down by Pelosi’s own Sergeant at Arms.”

Sund added he lacked legal authority to call troops without approval.

Delays During the Riot

During the attack, Sund said he “begged again for the Guard” but was stalled for “over 70 agonizing minutes” as requests were “run up the chain” to Pelosi.

Sund accused Pelosi of hypocrisy, noting that later “you ordered fencing topped with concertina wire and surrounded the Capitol with thousands of armed National Guard troops.”
