Barbara Eden Turns 92: A Life of Fame, Loss, and Resilience

TV icon Barbara Eden, best known for her role in I Dream of Jeannie, celebrated her 92nd birthday on August 23, 2023. Nearly 60 years after her breakout role as the magical genie, Eden remains beloved by fans. Born during the Great Depression, Eden rose to fame in the 1950s and ’60s, starring in films and TV shows alongside stars like Elvis Presley. But her greatest success came in 1965 when she began playing Jeannie, a role that made her a household name.

That same year, she welcomed her only son, Matthew, with husband Michael Ansara. After their divorce, Matthew began a long struggle with drug addiction, starting at just 10 years old.
