Speculation began when Barack attended former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral without her, followed by Michelle skipping Donald Trump’s second inauguration. On the Work in Progress podcast, Michelle clarified that her absence wasn’t about marital issues. “Sometimes I say no just to prioritize myself,” she said, adding that society often assumes the worst when women make independent choices.
Barack recently admitted that his presidency strained their relationship, saying, “I was in a deep deficit with my wife.”
