Angelina Jolie Is Selling Her House & Leaving The Country

Angelina Jolie is preparing for a major life change—and it involves selling her historic Los Angeles estate and moving overseas.

The Maria star, 50, “plans to put the house up for sale” as she actively explores relocation options abroad, a source tells PEOPLE. According to the insider, Jolie “never wanted to live in L.A. full time” but stayed because of her custody arrangement with ex-husband Brad Pitt, 61.

The former couple—who finalized their divorce settlement in December 2024 after an eight-year legal battle—share six children: Maddox, 24, Pax, 21, Zahara, 20, Shiloh, 19, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 17.

The source revealed that Jolie “plans to relocate as soon as Knox and Viv turn 18 next year. She’s eyeing several locations abroad. She’ll be very happy when she’s able to leave Los Angeles.”

Her current residence, purchased in 2017 for $24.5 million, is a 1913-built architectural gem with deep Hollywood history. The estate spans 11,000 square feet, featuring six bedrooms, ten bathrooms, and lush grounds. Originally bought by legendary director Cecil B. DeMille in 1916 for under $28,000, the property once sat alongside a home owned by Charlie Chaplin. After Chaplin moved, DeMille purchased and combined the two estates, cementing its place in Hollywood lore.

“It’s a historic masterpiece and truly such a beautiful estate,” the source said, adding that Jolie plans to make minor upgrades before listing the property.

In a 2024 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Jolie explained that her presence in Los Angeles was tied directly to her divorce. “I have to be here from a divorce,” she said at the time, making it clear that her long-term plans involve living abroad.

She has often expressed her desire to give her children a life with “privacy, peace, safety”—something she feels Los Angeles cannot fully provide. “When you have a big family, you want them to have privacy, peace, safety. I have a house now to raise my children, but sometimes this place can be … that humanity that I found across the world is not what I grew up with here,” Jolie said.

Once her twins are adults, the Oscar-winning actress and humanitarian plans to split her time between various destinations—with one special location holding her heart. “I’ll spend a lot of time in Cambodia,” she shared, referencing the country where she adopted her eldest son Maddox in 2002. She also intends to visit family members “wherever they may be in the world.”

Earlier this year, during the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, Jolie described Cambodia as “the one place in my heart that I consider home.”

If the move goes as planned, Jolie’s departure will mark the end of her years in Los Angeles—and the sale of one of Hollywood’s most storied properties.
