Trump Labels Epstein File Interest as Suspicious
Donald Trump declared that “only bad people” care about the rumored Epstein files. His comments have fueled public suspicion and debate.
Attorney General Denies Existence of Client List
Five months after hinting that Epstein files sat on her desk, Attorney General Pam Bondi said no client list ever existed. She explained she referred only to the general case file, but this has done little to calm Trump supporters.
In fact, House Speaker Mike Johnson broke ranks on July 15 and called for the full release of the files.
Epstein Case Sparks Conspiracy Theories
Since Jeffrey Epstein’s death in 2019 and Ghislaine Maxwell’s conviction in 2021, conspiracy theories have suggested Epstein had a “client list” naming wealthy, famous, and powerful figures.
The Department of Justice denied the list’s existence earlier this month and said it would not release additional files related to the case.
Trump Defends With Sharp Criticism
Trump took to Truth Social to defend the decision not to release more files. He criticized former officials like Obama, Hillary Clinton, Comey, and Brennan, blaming them and the Biden administration for repeatedly publicizing the Epstein case.
He wrote, “For years, it’s Epstein, over and over again… Why are we giving publicity to files written by Obama, Crooked Hillary, Comey, Brennan, and the Losers and Criminals of the Biden administration?”
Trump Praises Bondi’s Handling of the Case
On July 15, Trump told reporters Bondi had “handled it very well.” He said it was up to her to decide what credible information, if any, should be released.
When asked if Bondi told him whether his name appeared in the files, Trump dismissed the question. He said she gave only a “very quick briefing” and suggested the files were “made up” by political opponents.
Trump Dismisses Public Interest in Epstein Files
In other remarks, Trump expressed confusion over why people care so much about the Epstein case.
“He’s been dead for a long time,” Trump said. “He was never a big factor in life. The credible information has been given.”
He compared the Epstein case to the “Mueller witch hunt” and the Steele dossier, labeling them “fake” and “boring stuff.”
Only “Bad People” Want to Keep the Story Alive
Trump doubled down by accusing “pretty bad people including fake news” of wanting to keep the story alive. However, he added, “Let them give credible information. Anything that’s credible, I would say let them have it.”
