Disturbing comments from Trump about Texas floods spark outrage

Trump Visits Texas Amid Flood Devastation

Donald Trump traveled to Texas this week after devastating floods ravaged the state. The floods destroyed homes, shattered communities, and claimed many lives.

More than 150 people remain missing, while at least 129 deaths have been confirmed. The disaster began early on July 4, when the Guadalupe River overflowed after intense rainfall poured down in a short time.

Trump Acknowledges Tragedy and Promises Support

Speaking publicly for the first time about the floods, Trump said, “It looks like some young people have died,” referring to the children from Camp Mystic affected by the disaster. Authorities confirmed some children’s deaths and noted others remain unaccounted for.

Trump also pledged that his administration would work closely with Governor Greg Abbott to provide aid and support during this difficult period. He had previously promised to back the governor in managing relief efforts.

Controversial Flood Description Sparks Backlash

However, Trump’s comments after visiting Texas sparked outrage online. He described the floodwaters as a massive wave, using an analogy that many found insensitive.

On Friday, Trump told reporters:
“Following a torrential downpour, the worst anyone has ever seen, the Guadalupe River rose 26 feet in less than 45 minutes. I even heard it went well over 30 feet. One person said it had to be 60 feet at one moment. This is like a giant, giant wave in the Pacific Ocean — one that even the best surfers in the world would fear to surf.”

Social Media Reacts with Disgust and Confusion

Many on social media criticized Trump’s analogy, calling it inappropriate given the tragedy.
