A fast-thinking couple’s small act saved numerous lives during the Texas floods

Flash Floods Devastate Central Texas

D**dly flash floods swept through the Guadalupe River area during the Fourth of July weekend, ki**ing at least 104 people. A month’s worth of rain fell in just hours. Water surged to 26 feet, washing away mobile homes, cabins, and vehicles.

Courage in Chaos: Lyle and Sue Glenna’s Story

Among those caught in the disaster were Lyle and Sue Glenna, seasonal campground workers from Minnesota. Instead of focusing on their own escape, the couple acted fast to warn fellow campers.

Their son, Wes Glenna, told CBS News:

“They jumped into their truck and honked their horn to alert people. That definitely helped some make it out.”

Lifesaving Horns and Precious Minutes

GoFundMe page created for the Glenna family praised their “presence of mind” and quick thinking. The page stated:

“By honking and waking people up, they gave precious minutes for some to evacuate and saved many lives.”

The floodwaters engulfed the campground in less than 10 minutes. Lyle and Sue escaped with only their truck and the clothes on their backs.

Loss and Trauma

Wes shared the heartbreak:

“They lost everything — friends, visitors, co-workers. They watched it all happen. It was deeply traumatic.”

The ordeal took a heavy toll. Lyle suffered a heart attack during the flood but is expected to make a full recovery.

Community Steps Up

The couple’s GoFundMe has raised over $24,000 to help them rebuild. A recent update shared:

“Lyle left the hospital today. They required a new CPAP machine before release, and thanks to your generosity, they got it quickly and without stress.”

While insurance claims remain uncertain, the donations provide immediate relief.

“These funds are helping them start over — now and completely.”
