In his July 4 message, Obama seems to quietly criticize Donald Trump.

Obama’s 4th of July Message Sparks Buzz Over Possible Trump Jab

Many believe former president Barack Obama’s recent Independence Day message aimed a sharp critique at Donald Trump. This comes shortly after Trump signed off on a controversial bill that has stirred fierce debate.

Trump Signs ‘Big, Beautiful Bill’

On July 3, Congress approved an almost 1,000-page budget overhaul in a narrow 218-214 vote. The legislation, dubbed by Trump as his “big, beautiful bill,” will add $3.4 trillion to the national debt over the next decade. Currently, the debt stands at $36.2 trillion.

The bill delivers on Trump’s 2024 campaign promises by providing tax breaks. However, it also cuts health and food safety programs, raising concerns among many Americans.

Obama Urges Opposition Ahead of Vote

Before the vote, Obama called on citizens to contact their representatives and oppose the bill. He warned, “More than 16 million Americans risk losing their health care because Republicans are rushing to pass legislation cutting Medicaid funding and weakening the Affordable Care Act.”

He added, “If the House passes this bill, it will increase costs and hurt working-class families for generations.” Then he urged people: “Call your representative today and tell them to vote no.”

A Thoughtful Independence Day Message

After the bill passed, Obama posted a message on social media for July 4. He wrote:

“Independence Day reminds us America is not the project of any one person.
The most powerful word in our democracy is ‘We.’ ‘We The People.’ ‘We Shall Overcome.’ ‘Yes We Can.’
America belongs to all citizens.
Now, when democratic principles face continuous attacks, and when many feel cynical and disengaged, we must ask how to build democracies that work for ordinary people.”
